Here’s our School campus at breaktime. See the kids washing their lunch bowls and cups. We are a Christian school. We are located in Eastern Uganda on Mt. Elgon not far from the Kenya border in a small Village called Kapchorwa. We offer grades Kindergarten (or we say “Baby”) – P-7 for a small cost. Parents pay school fees to place their children in our school. We have 3 terms each school year and we currently just finished Term ll and the kids had a much needed few week break.
The school year begins in early February & goes till early May. Then the kids get a 3 week break returning for Term 11.
Term 11 begins at the end of May till End of August. Then another 3 week break. Term 111 is the last term and begins Mid September and finishes up the school year Dec. 1st. Then all the students go home for the Holidays for 2 months, returning for a new school year & a higher grade in early February.
We are blessed to have 2 Cooks who provide for our students and teachers. They receive Porridge at 10 am and “Posho” (maize) & beans, tomatoes and greens if available for their lunch in the afternoon. I’m pretty certain our American kids would not like their Ugandan lunch. Currently our school has over 300 students. All are working hard.
We have 15 wonderful teachers and several Teacher Aids. Unfortunately they work for substandard wages. 160,000 – 320,000 Ugandan Shillings. Which is $42.79-85.58 USD. We are so grateful for them. We pray we can raise their wage when we get our Sunflower Oil operation expanded.
We have 10 classrooms and a Headmasters/staff office and our kitchen. Currently we are raising funds to build a Shade Cover for our students while they are outside on break. That Ugandan sun is relentless! We want to build a nice covered area for shade while kids are eating and playing & during breaks.
School is going well, we have a soccer team and a track team both boys and girls. We are competitive and compete with other local schools. Some of our students are amazing athletes.
